ArmInfo. The ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) will officially present Serzh Sargsyan's candidature for the post of Prime Minister of the country. This decision was unanimously adopted at today's meeting of the RPA Council in Tsakhkadzor.
According to the statement of the RPA, the proposal on Sargsyan's nomination, came from the first vice-chairman of the party Karen Karapetyan. "At the meeting of the Council, the decision of the Executive Body was presented by the first vice-chairman of the party Karen Karapetyan. The Council unanimously voted for the proposed candidature," the RPA said in a statement.
It is noted that on April 16 the parliamentary faction of the RPA will officially submit the candidacy of Serzh Sargsyan to the post of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia.
Initially the meeting of the RPA Council was to be held in Yerevan at the party's office, but after the opposition announced its intention to block the building, the Republicans changed the venue and went to Tsaghkadzor. But the opposition decided at 16:30 to go to Tsaghkadzor to continue rallies there. In addition, on April 17, when the National Assembly holds a vote on Serzh Sargsyan's candidature, the opposition intends to block the building of the National Assembly. The reinforced police patrols are already on duty at the back entrance of the National Assembly from today.
Earlier, on April 11, after the meeting of the party, the deputy speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia, the press secretary of the ruling Republican Party, Eduard Sharmazanov, stated that, in addition to the candidature of former president Serzh Sargsyan, no other candidate was proposed for the post of prime minister of Armenia during the meeting of the Supreme body of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA). "The discussions took place in an atmosphere of solidarity and solidarity, and all the members of the RPA Executive Body, without exception, supported the proposal that was made on the eve of the meeting." On Saturday, at the meeting of the RPA Council, the candidature of the Prime Minister will be proposed. "I think everyone understands who is our candidate for the post of prime minister. No other opinion can be," the RPA spokesman said.
