Ara Babloyan, Chairman of the National Assembly of Armenia, told journalists at a press conference following the meeting of the Council of the CIS Inter- Parliamentary Assembly in St. Petersburg about the process of Armenia's transition from the presidential to the parliamentary form of government.
The speaker recalled that the process of reforms in the republic was launched in 2015. "After the adoption of the new Constitution, quite serious work was carried out: on April 9, the inauguration of the newly elected president took place, and on April 17 we will select a new prime minister of the country, thereby completing the transition to a parliamentary form of government and starting a new path only the expansion of the powers of the parliament, but also increases the responsibility of the legislature," Babloyan said. He added that since Armenia is a legal state, special attention will be paid to the activities of the judiciary, as well as to economic development and parallel development of social programs.
The head of the Armenian legislature expressed the conviction that the new form of government in Armenia will allow further expanding international cooperation, strengthen interparliamentary cooperation, and stimulate parliamentary diplomacy.
Speaking of relations with Russia, Babloyan once again reminded that the Armenian-Russian ties have a historical character. "From year to year, our cooperation is strengthening, and we are very happy about this, and we have a positive experience of cooperation with Russia, projecting on relations with our other partners in the CIS and the CSTO." We are striving to expand political, economic and friendly ties with our partners", concluded Babloyan.
