ArmInfo. Over 200 drivers of trucks blocked the Yerevan-Gyumri road in protest.
The reason for their discontent was the government's decision, according to which, drivers of overloaded trucks are fined from 500,000 AMD and more. Meanwhile, the protesters are working at the quarry of the village of Ujan, and their cars are often overloaded, as a result of which all of them were fined with 1 million and more AMD.
Deputy Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technologies Andrei Simonyan arrived to meet with drivers from Yerevan. But this did not calm the worried drivers. "Such decisions force us to seek refuge in Turkey, but do not expect this country of ours, you will not be able to evict us from here." The laws are valid only for ordinary people, and the representatives of the ruling Republican Party violate them with impunity. "Either let us live peacefully or let the country's leadership go away," the drivers shouted, threatening to march to the president's residence, if the fines and the relevant law were not annulled.
Deputy Minister Andrei Simonyan promised to suspend the law before the problem is solved. He also promised to cancel the fines, if possible. Simonyan suggested that the drivers write their proposals in writing and come to the government for a more detailed discussion of the situation. "I am with the people," the deputy minister assured.
Having calmed down with the promises of the official, the drivers for the time opened the highway, promising to repeat the action and triple the rallies in Yerevan, if the issue does not find its solution. "This is the first victory of the people," the drivers noted.
