ArmInfo. "Armenia is moving towards the liberalization of the visa regime," Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Shavarsh Kocharyan told reporters on March 22 after commenting on Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan's remark that today there are a number of countries with which visa facilitation does not contain threats, but the decision on them is late.
According to Kocharyan, simplification of visa procedures for Armenia is a continuous process. For today there is a list of countries for which the visa-free regime operates, for others a simplified visa regime operates, for the third - a visa or an invitation is required. "We have a tendency towards simplifying the visa regime - periodically the government's decisions update the list of countries for which Armenia facilitates the procedures," he said. As for simplifying the visa regime with the EU, according to the deputy minister, European partners are ready for liberalization.
Nevertheless, as Kocharyan pointed out, to this day there is a certain, well-grounded concern related to the possible influx of new migrants into the EU. "Simplification of the visa regime is closely connected with readmission - the EU is interested in the fact that simplification did not lead to abuse," the Deputy Foreign Minister explained.
