ArmInfo. The Public Commission on Television and Radio of Armenia will receive more independence. Amendments to the Laws "On Television and Radio" and "On Joint Stock Companies" were made at a meeting of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia on March 21 in the first reading.
According to the First Deputy Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Artur Hovhannisyan, the presented package of laws is brought into line with the provisions of the updated Constitution of the country. The draft law provides for the formation of the Public Commission on Television and Radio, whose task will be to ensure the freedom, independence and diversity of TV and radio programs. The commission will receive the status of an independent state body, in connection with which the powers of the commission and its members are established. The Commission undertakes to submit to the National Assembly of Armenia an annual report on the work performed. Determine the composition of the commission, as well as the requirements for its members.
Unlike the current law, according to which half the members of the Commission are appointed by the president and the other half by the NA, now it is proposed to establish the composition of the commission consisting of 7 members, which are approved by 3/5 of the votes of the RA NA deputies. The commission member must comply with the requirements to the NA deputies. The document establishes a provision on the formation of the Council of the Public Television and Radio Company. At the same time, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia will nominate candidates for the Council after winning the candidates in the competitions, which the commission will organize and carry out. Besides, in the conditions of the martial law, the prime minister will coordinate the activities of the media in Armenia.
