ArmInfo.The municipality of the Istanbul Shishli district decided to rename Samanjolu Street in honor of the founder and editor general of the Armenian newspaper Akos, Hrant Dink.
According to the Turkish edition of Hurriyet, at the moment the decision of the municipality has been sent to the city council of Istanbul for confirmation.
Hrant Dink was murdered on January 19, 2007 in Istanbul in front of the editorial office of his newspaper "Agos". However, the customers of the crime were never established. The court sentenced only the murderer himself - Ogun Samastak to 22 years of imprisonment for 10 months, and Yasin Khayal, accused of incitement to murder - to life imprisonment. On September 17, 2013, the trial was resumed. On January 19, 2015, former police chief Jizre Ercan Demir was arrested in the framework of the case, but the investigation has not yet been completed, and the customer has not been found.
