A meeting was held at the President of Armenia dedicated to the progress of the international tender for the right to sign a concession agreement for the issue of biometric passports and identification cards for the RA, as well as for the introduction, maintenance and transfer of an automated system of the modernized infrastructure of public certificates.
The press service of the Armenian leader told ArmInfo that during the meeting, along with the works performed by the tender commission, the president was presented with the need to improve the quality of rendered services of modernization of the automated system of the infrastructure of public certificates for issuing biometric passports and ID cards; advantages of a new system that meets the modern international criteria; features of the new biometric passport; planned to ensure a smooth transition to mandatory biometric passports of work and other issues related to the implementation of the system.
The head of the working group, the Prime Minister's Chief Adviser Eduard Nersisyan also reported on the main provisions of the technical requirements for biometric passports and identification cards, as well as on the obligations, rights and schedule envisaged under the draft concession agreement, in accordance with the criteria of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). organization of the competitive process.
The meeting was attended by the Prime Minister, members of the working group set up by the government resolution and representatives of interested departments. Let's remind that from January 1, 2014, adult citizens of Armenia instead of a passport received ID-cards that replaced passports in Armenia, and to leave the country it was necessary to pay 25 thousand drams (about 52 dollars) and get a biometric passport. Since August 6, 2016 this requirement has become optional.
