ArmInfo."Nagorno-Karabakh, fortunately, is not a hot spot, although we understand that the situation there is explosive especially given the April events of 2016," Head of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia Konstantin told a news conference in the Armenian parliament Kosachev, commenting on the fact that Russia, while condemning the supply of US weapons to Ukraine, itself sells weapons to Azerbaijan.
Kosachev said that in the case of Ukraine, it is a country in which there are many hot spots, while Nagorno- Karabakh is not that. According to the deputy, Russia is simply fulfilling the contracts that were signed before April 2016, as this is part of its obligations. At the same time, the parliamentarian assured that Russia will no longer supply weapons to Azerbaijan on this scale. "Undoubtedly, we are reacting to the situation that emerged after the April 2016 war in the zone of the Karabakh conflict, there is no doubt about that," Kosachev assured.
The MP also noted that, of course, Armenia is a strategic partner and ally for Russia. "This position is supported by the consensus of Russian society and the country's top leadership," Konstantin Kosachev emphasized. As for certain unresolved issues, according to the parliamentarian, they are on the agenda, and they are always found a fair decision. Touching upon the meeting of the parliamentary commissions of the two countries on foreign issues held in Yerevan, the deputy noted that the sides discussed common positions and interests in international organizations. At the same time, he stressed that there is no such format of inter-parliamentary dialogue between Russia and Azerbaijan. "Such a format of work is formed only with close partners and allies," the deputy stressed.
Kosachev also noted that it is with Armenia that Russia has seven joint interparliamentary platforms. "In particular, we discussed cooperation in such interparliamentary assemblies as the OSCE, the Council of Europe, the National Security Council, the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the PACE, etc. We also outlined further prospects for cooperation in other interparliamentary formats," Kosachev stressed.
