As the presidential press service reports, the head of Lebanon Michel Aoun, who is on an official visit to Yerevan, said during a joint briefing with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan on February 22.
At the same time, he expressed gratitude to Sargsyan for being in the international instances near to Lebanon and its problems. "We held positive and constructive talks with Sargsyan, touched upon the state of bilateral relations, recorded tangible progress, as well as the main works that have been carried out to date to strengthen them. Our meeting was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere, which reflects the strong human ties that bind us, special relations between the Armenian and Lebanese peoples," the head of Lebanon said.
According to him, the meeting discussed the situation in the Middle East - crises and wars in some countries of this region, especially in neighboring Syria. "We agreed on the need to find a peaceful solution to these crises and stop the military machine, as violence only gives rise to violence and extremism, as evidenced by the unrest that has begun in our region and lasted for the past seven years. I presented to the President of Armenia the challenges Lebanon faces in the result of the Syrian war, in particular, the penetration of terrorist organizations and their cells both into our country and to other countries of the region and the world. I here assured him that Lebanon is successfully confronting these threats and destroys the terrorist cells, affirming peace and stability in our society. We agreed that it is important by relying on advanced culture, respect for the rights of the individual and the state, to strengthen bilateral and international cooperation in the fight against terrorism, since no country can avoid this danger," Aoun said.
