ArmInfo. The special representative of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly for the South Caucasus, Kristian Vigenin, resigned. Vigenin himself reported on February 22 in Vienna at the presentation of the final report at the winter session of the OSCE PA.
According to him, today at 12.00 local time, he submitted to the OSCE PA President George Tsereteli an application for resignation from the post of special representative. His decision Vigenin argued the desire to focus all his forces at work as a spokesperson for the Committee on Political Affairs and Security.
Vigenin, in his speech, touching on the position of the special representative expressed the conviction that the three countries of the South Caucasus should be viewed not in the aggregate, but individually. According to him, all the problems and issues related to Nagorno-Karabakh are completely different from the situation in Georgia - all these three countries have different approaches and goals.
At the same time, he expressed conviction that, in the current situation, the position of the special representative is formal. "The situation in the region does not create conditions for initiatives and a broader dialogue, and all participants in the process prefer a person who is less initiative and less active. There is no and there will not be full-fledged links and the opportunity to visit the conflict zone in the region. There is no financial support for the special representative, and all his expenses are borne by the country he represents, which is why the position of the special representative should be frozen in the current situation, and the authority should be delegated to the OSCE PA Vice-President," he concluded.
