ArmInfo.President of the Republic of Bulgaria Rumen Radev visited the National Assembly on February 12, where he met with Parliament Speaker Ara Babloyan.
As National Assembly press service informs, Babloyan welcoming Radev, expressed confidence that the visit will contribute to the strengthening and rapprochement of the relations between the Armenian and Bulgarian peoples.
According to Babloyan, Armenia attaches importance to the stable development of relations with Bulgaria, deepening the political dialogue.
The Chairman of the National Assembly addressed the development of parliamentary diplomacy and the activation of the activities of the friendship groups of the two countries, as well as the need for effective cooperation at inter-parliamentary platforms.
Babloyan thanked the Bulgarian people and authorities for their attitude to the Armenian community, noting that Armenians are worthy citizens who contribute to the development of Bulgaria.
The Head of the Parliament touched upon the constitutional changes, the system of parliamentary government in Armenia and the enhancement of the role of the National Assembly of Armenia. Babloyan presented the situation in the region and confirmed Armenia's approach to the settlement of the Karabakh conflict - to solve the problem by peaceful negotiation.
The President of the Republic of Bulgaria thanked for the reception and introduced the delegation, which also includes parliamentarians.
Rumen Radev said in his speech that the Bulgarian parliament, which has traditions of parliamentary administration, is the guarantor of democratic changes in his country. He welcomed the steps taken by the Republic of Armenia to deepen democracy.
The President noted that since January 2018, Bulgaria has been chairing the Council of the European Union, and, referring to the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Expanded Partnership Agreement, assured that his country will begin the process of ratification. Speaking about the Karabakh conflict, Radev noted that Bulgaria should unite efforts with the EU on this issue - to stabilize the situation in the region.
The President of Bulgaria has entered a record in the Book of Honorary Guests of Parliament.
At the end of the meeting, NA Speaker Ara Babloyan informed Radev that for the significant contribution to the new direction for the introduction of the epileptic surgery - four doctors of the Sofia University Hospital, Sveti Ivan Rilski awarded the Commemorative Medal of the Chairman of the National Assembly of Armenia.
