ArmInfo. On February 10, the 4th chess tournament among the media, which was held under the sponsorship of VTB Bank (Armenia) and with the support of the Armenian Chess Academy and Sil Maaza Company, was completed at the Armenian Chess Academy.
The organizer of the tournament was the Association of Foreign Correspondents, according to the Bank's press service. In the fourth consecutive year, the sports journalist of the newspaper "Voice of Armenia" Vadim Mkrtchyan was recognized as winner, who scored 6 points out of 7 possible. In second place was the editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Football plus", the famous football TV commentator Suren Baghdasaryan with 5.5 points, and the third was the journalist of the site haymedia.am Narek Varazdatyan. All prize- winners received cups, diplomas and cash prizes from the sponsor of the event. The winner of the tournament was awarded the Armenian Chess Champion, grandmaster Hayk Martirosyan. The winners were also the participants of the tournament in 5 nominations: journalist of the hetq.am site Norayr Shoghikyan, the fourth-place journalist Nora Shoghikyan, independent journalist Ara Nalbandian for the most beautiful victory, the correspondent of "Golos Armenii" newspaper Ruben Margaryan for showing willpower to victory, correspondent of "Golos Armenii" Vadim Mkrtchyan for the fastest victory and the chief editor of the newspaper Aspet, 72-year-old Arthur Buniatyan, as the oldest participant of the tournament. According to the source, 17 journalists from various media participated in the tournament, who passed on a system of fast chess of seven rounds. For each game, participants were given 10 minutes each with 5 seconds added for each turn. The main judge of the competition was the international category referee Vahagn Khachatryan. "The purpose of the tournament is to promote the development of chess in the republic, to instill a sporting lifestyle for the journalistic community," said the President of the Foreign Correspondents' Association Tigran Hovhannisyan.
