ArmInfo.Citizens of Armenia studying in foreign educational institutions will receive the right to postpone the service of the army. The parliament of the country at its meeting on February 8 approved in the first reading the relevant amendments to the law "On military service and the status of a serviceman."
According to the author of the submitted document, the deputy of the National Assembly of Armenia Mihran Poghosyan, the citizens of the country studying in the general education system of Armenia have the right to defer from the army until the completion of their education in the general education system, until their 19th birthday.
Currently, a similar law is also proposed to be extended to Armenian citizens who have migrated from the country and are being trained in general educational institutions of other countries. In fact, as noted by the speaker, this will ensure the constitutional right of Armenian citizens to uninterrupted general education. According to the Armenian legislation, male citizens aged 18 and over are recruited for compulsory military service. Meanwhile, there is a 12-year education system in Armenia.
