ArmInfo. The future of Armenia in conducting concorded politics in the direction of realizing its own national interests through harmonization. Such an opinion was expressed by ArmInfo director of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia Ruben Safrastyan.
"I regard the Armenia-EU agreement as a good opportunity to enhance the regional and global role and significance of our country, but only if Armenia and the EU implement the provisions of the Association Agreement signed in November 2017, preserve our identity while simultaneously aligning with different poles and civilizations, we will be able to record the fact of the realization of our civilizational mission in this world, "the professor emphasized.
According to his estimates and forecasts, in 2018 the region, of which Armenia is a part, will not become safer in the first place due to the unsettled primarily through the fault, unwilling to fulfill the Vienna and St. Petersburg agreements of Azerbaijan, the Karabakh conflict. This fact, according to the orientalist, preserves the threat of Baku's initiation of another, large-scale aggression against Artsakh.
The expert in the strategic sense assesses the relations developing successfully between Armenia and Iran as being positively reflected and turned into a stabilizing factor of the entire region. In his view, in this light, the strengthening of relations between Tehran and Yerevan needs additional stimulation in order to enter a new, higher level.
Friendly, constructive, based on the centuries-old friendship and common history, the relationship of Armenia with neighboring Georgia, the professor describes as a good example of cooperation even in the presence of different foreign policy vectors.
"Our relations with Russia continue to be invariably allied, of course, there are problems, in particular, linked to the sale of weapons to Azerbaijan." However, in my opinion, in the past year there have been trends in Moscow's perception of the error of its own weapons policy. 2018 will be finally clear whether Russia is going to correct this mistake, "Safrastyan summed up.
