ArmInfo. On January 12, RA President Serzh Sargsyan's meeting with members of the Council of the National Assembly will be held at the residence of the President of Armenia. The meeting will be held on the initiative of the RA President, however, the agenda of the meeting is not specified yet.
This fact caused strong indignation of the head of the faction of the opposition bloc "Elk" Nikol Pashinyan who wrote to the chairman of the National Assembly Ara Babloyan and other members of the Council of the National Assembly with a demand to boycott the meeting.
Pashinyan motivates this requirement by "disrespectful" attitude of the president to the governing body of the National Assembly in conditions of Armenia's transition to a parliamentary form of government. "The fact that the president" calls for itself "the leading staff of the National Assembly, at a time when the country passes to a parliamentary form of government, is a manifestation of extreme disrespect to the supreme legislative body. This manifestation casts doubt on the already dubious process of Armenia's transition to a parliamentary form of government. No one has the right to "call to itself" the governing body of the Armenian parliament. If Serzh Sargsyan wants to discuss any issues with the Council of the National Assembly, he himself must appear in parliament in a convenient manner. In connection with this I appeal to the Council members of the National Assembly to boycott the meeting in the presidential residence," said in a statement Pashinyan.
The Council of the National Assembly, in which, however, most of the representatives are of the ruling party, has not yet responded to this statement.
