ArmInfo. The opposition bloc "Elk" intends to nominate the candidate of the deputy Artak Zeynalyan for the post of the republic's president during the April elections. This was stated in the parliament by the head of the Elk faction Nikol Pashinyan following the meeting of the faction.
He also said that "Elk" in this regard starts negotiations with the "Tsarukyan" block to support the candidacy of Zeynalyan, since, according to the new Constitution, the president of the country now chooses the parliament by three-fourths of the vote. To nominate Zeynalian, "Elk" must win the votes of 1/4 deputies, in connection with what he needs the support of the "Tsarukyan" bloc.
In the "Tsarukyan" bloc they are not in a hurry to make public their position regarding the upcoming presidential elections. Deputies from the bloc only answer: "So far this issue has not been discussed in the bloc, and there is as yet no official position on this issue."
Today the former speaker of the parliament, member of the Republican Party's Executive Body, MP Galust Sahakyan stated that in the Republican Party of Armenia the unanimous opinion on the candidacy of the future prime minister is that he will be Serzh Sargsyan. However, Sargsyan himself has not yet commented on this statement.
