ArmInfo. The coordination of candidatures of foreign diplomatic representatives in Azerbaijan is reduced to seeking out Armenian roots in their genealogy. This opinion was expressed by ArmInfo first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots Konstantin Zatulin.
On November 27, Russian ambassador Vladimir Dorokhin, who worked in Azerbaijan since 2009, was dismissed. However, Baku did not agree with the appointment of Deputy Director of Human Resources Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry Georgy Zuev as Russia's new ambassador to Azerbaijan. Zuev's candidature was approved by the State Duma in July, but the Russian Foreign Ministry has not received any aggro from Baku for his appointment. Thus, Azerbaijan became the first CIS country that refused to accept Moscow's personnel decisions.
"In this case, Baku's actions are inspired by the rampage in this country of nationalism whose origins lie in the Karabakh conflict. In particular, it is not allowed to pass through the policy implemented in Azerbaijan to people with Armenian surnames. some of our representatives, that this is becoming indecent, "he stressed.
Noting that such a situation hardly paints Russian-Azerbaijani relations, the parliamentarian stressed that any state and Azerbaijan, in particular, at the stage of coordinating candidacies for the post of foreign ambassador, of course, can express their views.
"However, at the same time, there are traditions and practices in which it is necessary to understand that the ambassador in Azerbaijan will still be Russian, and with what name, with any roots, ties he would not be, he will express the point of view of Russia, and not the one that Baku would like to see, and it will not be otherwise, "concluded Zatulin.
