ArmInfo. Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Shavarsh Kocharyan finds it difficult to give a clear assessment of the negotiation process for the settlement of the Karabakh conflict. "Azerbaijan, as a rule, agrees at the negotiating table, then opposes the implementation of the agreements," Shavarsh Kocharyan said this on December 7 after the government session, commenting on Edward Nalbandian's words about his last meeting with his Azeri counterpart in a positive atmosphere.
According to the Deputy Minister, any negotiations are preferable, since the alternative is the military actions. "From this point of view, we can regard the meeting of Nalbandian-Mamedjaryov, which confirms the necessity of creating an atmosphere of confidence," Kocharyan noted. Nevertheless, the Deputy Foreign Minister once again stressed that the Azeri side is doing everything to preserve the status quo. "If Baku really wants to change the status quo, then it must abandon this style of behavior," he said.
Touching upon the meeting of the Foreign Ministers scheduled for early 2018 and the expectations of the meeting, Kocharyan said that one can fix one thing, that the activation of meetings coincides with the fact that tension on the contact line weakens. "In this regard, the meetings are productive," Kocharyan said.
