ArmInfo. The official Stepanakert attaches special importance to the meeting of Aliyev-Sargsyan, which started in Geneva. This was stated in a conversation with the correspondent of ArmInfo by the press secretary of the NKR head David Babayan.
According to him, any meeting aimed at promoting the negotiation process on the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement is welcome in the NKR, and even more so at the summit. Babayan noted that at these kinds of meetings two groups of issues are discussed, in particular, general ones concerning the philosophy of the settlement of the problem, and more specific ones. "So, at the summits in Vienna and St. Petersburg, a whole direction was defined regarding the implementation of mechanisms of confidence in the conflict zone, I think that these issues will be surely touched upon at the Aliyev-Sargsyan meeting," Babayan said.
To clarify whether the Vienna and St. Petersburg agreements are still valid, the representative of the NKR head stated that Baku and Aliyev are constantly torpedoing them and refusing to implement the agreements reached. "Undoubtedly, we should not expect that Aliyev and his regime will reconsider their approach so quickly, but this does not mean that we should stop making efforts in this direction," Babayan concluded.
The meeting of the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan Serzh Sargsyan and Ilham Aliyev, initiated by the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, has already started in Geneva.
The meeting takes place at the UN office in Switzerland. Armenian and Azeri Foreign Ministers Edward Nalbandian and Elmar Mammadyarov, Minsk mediators Igor Popov, Andrew Sheffer, Stefan Visconti and Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Andrzej Kasprzyk are taking part in the meeting. A tete-a-tete Aliyev-Sargsyan meeting is also foreseen.
ArmInfo. The Geneva meeting of Aliyev and Sargsyan is remarkable only by the agreement of the Armenian side against it, despite the absence of any progress in the implementation of the prevention mechanisms, as well as the investigation of incidents on the contact line between the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan and Artsakh. Such an opinion was expressed by ArmInfo ex- NKR Foreign Minister, independent analyst Arman Melikyan.
ArmInfo. Most likely, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan was forced to meet with his Azerbaijani counterpart in Geneva. Manvel Sargsyan, the director of the Armenian Center for Strategic and National Studies, expressed his opinion to ArmInfo.
