ArmInfo. At this stage, the foreign policy strategy of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is to support the parity of decisions on Russia and the United States. Such an opinion was expressed by ArmInfo expert of the Russian Council for International Affairs and the International Discussion Club "Valdai", an Americanist Maxim Suchkov.
"In my opinion, just a couple of hours ago Ankara issued a warrant for the arrest of another American consular officer precisely in the framework of restoring the parity of" sparkling decisions "of the last two weeks regarding the policy towards Moscow and Washington," he stressed.
In this light, the expert recalled that over the past two weeks, within the framework of the above-mentioned foreign policy strategy, Erdogan loudly announced the purchase of S-400 complexes from Russia, suspended the issuance of visas to Americans. Then he managed to threaten Moscow with a breakdown of the "deal" on the S-400, in case Russia does not transfer the technology of their production and even go to Ukraine with a speech about "supporting the oppressed Crimean Tatars."
On October 4, the Turkish Prosecutor General's Office issued an arrest warrant for two employees of the US Consulate General in Istanbul. In response, the US stopped issuing visas to Turkey, to which Ankara responded in a similar step. Earlier, Erdogan unexpectedly announced a deal to purchase from Moscow S-400 air defense missile systems. After that, Mevlut Cavusoglu, the Turkish Foreign Minister, said in an interview with the newspaper "Aksam" that Ankara could refuse to purchase from Moscow the S-400 complexes in case of Russia's refusal to conclude an agreement with Ankara on their joint production.
