The OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs issued a statement on the completion of their visit to the region, in which they stressed in particular that their mission was to summarize the results of the organization of the meeting between the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Serzh Sargsyan and Ilham Aliyev, and discuss possible issues of the meeting.
In their statement, the mediators assured that during the meetings the Armenian and Azeri leaders reaffirmed their readiness to return to negotiations with a view to achieving a peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict. Further, the mediators noted that information about the forthcoming meeting of the heads of the two states will be circulated by the parties themselves in the near future.
The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group visited the region on October 6-7, where they held meetings with the leadership of Armenia and Azerbaijan. Prior to the visit of the three mediators (Russia, France, USA), the newly appointed American co-chairman Andrew Sheffer arrived in the region, who also visited Artsakh and held meetings with the leadership of the republic, assessing them as fruitful.
