ArmInfo. On September 22, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian met in New York with the Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Ambassador Thomas Greminger.
According to the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, Edward Nalbandian noted during the meeting that despite the termination of the OSCE Office in Yerevan as a result of the application of the veto by Baku, Armenia is ready to continue implementing the organization's programs in the country.
The sides discussed a wide range of issues related to cooperation within the OSCE, as well as ways to solve the tasks facing the organization.
Edward Nalbandian and Thomas Greminger exchanged views on the search for a peaceful solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
To note, the OSCE Yerevan office completely ceased its activity in Yerevan on August 31 this year. It was the last fully functioning office of the organization in the region. The reason for the closure of the office was the veto imposed by Azerbaijan on the continuation of the further mission of the OSCE office in Yerevan. As you know, the OSCE, according to its charter, agrees decisions on a consensus basis, and, despite the fact that all member states supported the continuation of the mission of the Yerevan office, which is the only one in the region, the veto of Azerbaijan will lead to closure of the organization's office in Armenia. It should be noted that Austria's chairmanship in the OSCE also made efforts to continue the mission of the organization in Yerevan, however this did not affect the decision of Baku.
