ArmInfo. The European Union is in constant dialogue with the Armenian side on such a sensitive topic as political prisoners. On September 14, at the meeting with journalists in Yerevan, the head of the EU delegation to Armenia Piotr Swatalsky stated.
He stressed that this issue is discussed both with representatives of civil society and law enforcement agencies. According to the diplomat, despite the fact that the Armenian authorities deny the existence of political prisoners in the country, the dialogue with the Armenian government on this issue is proceeding in a positive way. He also added that EU has the right to voice this issue and conduct discussions.
To recall, today there are no political prisoners in Armenia officially. However, a number of opposition figures are being held in high-profile criminal cases.
