Kiesler: European Union is ready to sign agreement on extended and comprehensive partnership with Armenia

ArmInfo. European Union is ready to sign an agreement on an expanded and comprehensive partnership with Armenia in November this year at the Eastern Partnership summit, and today there are no circumstances that can prevent it. On September 12, in Yerevan in an interview with journalists, German Ambassador to Armenia Matthias Kiesler stated.

Referring to the  statement of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan that the EU in 2013 considered it impossible to sign the Association Agreement with Armenia, Kiesler noted in particular: "As far as we know, in 2013 it was Armenia that took a strategic step, joining the Customs Union, and then to the Eurasian Economic Union. And this decision was made by the European Union, as Armenia and the EU are equal partners. The European Union offers a partnership, but does not impose it. And it was in this spirit that he was given the start of negotiations over the new Armenia-EU agreement. "

At the same time, the diplomat urged not to turn back and look to the future. According to him, this agreement after the signing will open many opportunities for Armenia and will deepen cooperation in different spheres.

To recall, Armenian president said at the end of August that there are no obstacles to signing an agreement on an expanded and comprehensive Armenia-EU partnership at the Eastern Partnership summit in November. He also noted that in 2013, when Armenia joined the Eurasian Economic Union, a number of media, especially foreign ones, tried to present it as a "one-night decision".

In his turn, EU delegation head in Armenia Piotr Switalski stated on September 6 that EU is preparing "ink and paper" for signing the agreement at the November Eastern Partnership Summit in Brussels.
