ArmInfo.Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is convinced that if equal indivisible security really took on a legally binding form, then many conflicts that are now preserved in Europe would have been settled long ago.
The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed this view by speaking to students and teachers of MGIMO. "This concerns the Nagorno-Karabakh and Transnistrian conflicts. And the Ukrainian crisis would not have happened at all," Lavrov said, TASS reports.
At the same time, he stressed that Russia is able to defend its sovereignty and security in any development of events with the North Atlantic alliance. "NATO's persistent efforts to change the military and political situation in the Euro-Atlantic region, including the build-up of a military presence and infrastructure in the border regions with Russia, are especially worrying. Those who initiate such unconstructive actions already understand that with any development of events with NATO we can reliably to ensure the sovereignty and security of our country," the Russian Foreign Minister said.
