ArmInfo. Armenian Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan is convinced that there are no prerequisites for large-scale military operations at the Karabakh conflict zone today, as the war cannot solve the issue of Nagorno Karabakh.
"When I say that our adversary is unpredictable, that's what I mean, because in a country where there is no mechanism for public and democratic control, the resumption of hostilities can have many motivating reasons that are not visible for the outside observer. Of course, analyzes of international experts are often based on the amount of weapons, their movement, the types of conducted exercises. However, I am practically convinced that large-scale military operations should not begin for a simple reason, since this war cannot resolve Karabakh issue, "Sargsyan said, referring to international forecasts on June 28 increasing the probability of resumption of large-scale military operations in Yerevan Zone of Karabakh conflict.
According to him, there is no development during combat actions that will allow to solve Karabakh issue in favor of Azerbaijan, moreover, there is a big risk that during large-scale combat actions, Azerbaijani side can get irreparable damage for their economy and for the country. "By the way, I do not underestimate the threats that the large-scale war of Armenia can inflict. One does not rule out the other. Intentionally going to a large-scale war in this case would be meaningless for Azerbaijan. But this does not exclude possible threats - various provocations, escalation of the situation, pinpoint strikes. However, I repeat once again, in a country where there is no civilian control, such decisions can be taken more easily. We should always be ready. There is no alternative. The threat cannot disappoint us enough that we refuse to protect our country and security. We must learn to live in today's regional reality, strengthening our own security and simultaneously providing development in all directions. Only in such conditions the country can be powerful, " Defense Minister said.
