ArmInfo.Minister of Justice of Armenia considers that the penitentiary system of Armenia needs serious reforms.
"There are many tasks in the penitentiary institutions of Armenia, for solving which it is necessary, first of all, to resolve the issue with elimination of their causes, in order to exclude their consequences," he told journalists on June 15 after the meeting of the Government.
In response to a question about why gambling/card games are not prohibited in Armenian prisons, the minister noted that they are already banned. "What causes this situation? That's what you need to think about," he said. The head of the Ministry of Justice promised that serious and sharp steps will be taken to eliminate these and other unpleasant situations in the system. "But if you take sharp steps, you understand the rapid steps that can change the situation in one day, I will say that no, there are none, because practice shows that sharp steps do not lead to the desired results," he explained. "We will hurry slowly" said the head of the Ministry of Justice, assuring that there are already formulated ideas and steps in this direction. Current practice of card games in the country's penitentiary system repeatedly appeared in the media, as well as that the directors of the penitentiary institutions in subordinate violation do not obey the head of the Ministry of Justice.
