ArmInfo.Kurdistan independence could lead to a chain reaction in Iran, resuming the conflicts at South Caucasus. Such an opinion was stated to ArmInfo by independent analyst, Arman Melikyan, the Ex-Foreing n Minister of NKR.
Iraqi Kurdistan autonomy authorities recently stated their intention to held an Independence Referendum on September 25. In this respect some experts do not rule out the beginning of another revision of borders in the middle East region, which will be followed by Lozano Agreement cancellation, based on which the Ottoman Empire has been divided more than a century ago. "It is not ruled out that autumn referendum and claiming the independence of Kurdistan will become a certain pulse to move towards the independence of Iranian Kurds as well. This movement could be possibly joined by ethnic Turks residing at the North of Iran and forming the vast majority of the population in the region mentioned.
In this respect, the expert forecasts the probability of a situation when Iranian Turks and Kurds will stand tog ether against Tehran. Melikyan estimates the probability of such scenario as high. "Meanwhile, the implementation of such policy will activate also the frozen or potential conflicts at South Caucasus. In this aspect, we should seriously revise al the potential threats to Armenia, which could occur in the result of national conflicts at Iranian territory," the expert summarized.
