ArmInfo.The film "Promise" about the Armenian Genocide was shown at the Parliament Hill in Canada.
As the press service of the Armenian National Committee of Canada told ArmInfo, representatives of practically all political forces of the country, senators and civil servants were present at the screening of the film organized by the Armenian-Canadian parliamentary friendship group.
To note, the historical drama "Promise" about the Armenian Genocide came on the big screen on April 27. The film even before the release became the subject of political speculation and scandal, caused a lot of controversy and attracted the attention of the media.
The plot of the film by director Terry George is based on the love story of young doctor Mikael Poghosyan (Oscar Isaac), Armenian painter Anna Kesaryan (Charlotte Le Bon) and American journalist Chris Myers (Christian Bale). The love story develops against the background of the forced deportation of the Armenian population of the Ottoman Empire during the First World War and the Armenian Genocide, the first genocide of the 20th century.
Filmed with the financial support of the American billionaire of Armenian origin Kirk Kerkorian, the film collected $ 4.1 million in the US film distribution for the first weekend, while $ 100 million was invested in the film. The "Promise" rating on the Rotten Tomatoes website was 47%.
