ArmInfo. Armenia handed over to Russia Valery Permyakov, convicted in Armenia for life imprisonment for the murder of seven members of the Avetisyan family in the Armenian city of Gyumri. The transfer of the convict to the Russian side took place on May 18, the Ministry of Justice of Armenia reported.
"In accordance with the need to ensure the decision of the court of first instance of the general jurisdiction of the Shirak region of August 23, 2016, Permyakov was transferred today to the Russian side in accordance with the Moscow Convention of 1998 on the transfer of convicts to imprisonment for further serving punishment," the ministry said.
It is noted that according to the agreement reached between the parties, the Russian Federation will provide Armenia with a request for information on further punishment of Permyakov. "The decision of the Russian court to recognize the verdict handed down by the Armenian court guarantees complete and unconditional enforcement of the verdict against Valery Permyakov in accordance with the current bilateral treaties," the Ministry of Justice noted.

"The verdict of the court of general jurisdiction of the first instance of the Shirak of the Republic of Armenia of August 23, 2016 regarding the citizen of the Russian Federation Valery Permyakov, whose final punishment is determined in the form of life imprisonment with serving in a correctional colony of special regime, is recognized as enforceable on the territory of Russia," the official said. The representative of the court Alena Katkalo, also said that the convicted Permyakov will serve his sentence in Russia, without specifying in which particular region of the country. According to media, Permyakov was "exchanged" for the Armenian citizen, Hrachya Harutyunyan, who is serving a sentence in Russia, who committed an accident on his truck that killed 18 people.
