ArmInfo. The candidacy of Parliamentarian Karen Karapetyan (brother of the Russian entrepreneur Samvel Karapetyan) for the position of the Chariman of the Parliament of Armenia is rejected by the leadership of the state.
As ArmInfo sources report, this question was closed recently. However, there is still uncertainty in the candidacy of the Speaker of the Parliament. Already at 18:00 the meeting of the Republican Party's Executive Body is to be held, and at 19:00 RPA Council, at which the party leader, President Serzh Sargsyan should announce the name of the future speaker, vice speakers, head of the parliamentary faction and heads of parliamentary commissions, but Republicans do not yet have any specific information on this matter.
To note, Karen Karapetian made a statement yesterday evening, in which he assured that he does not see himself as speaker of the parliament, and wants to be an ordinary Deputy. Meanwhile, ArmInfo sources say that Karapetyan himself, like Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan, actively lobbied his candidacy as speaker of the National Assembly, but the country's leadership rejected this option.
In the media, the names of the vice-speaker Eduard Sharmazanov, the deputy chairman of the RPA Armen Ashotyan, the ex-minister of justice Arpine Hovhannisyan were exaggerated as possible contenders for the post of speaker of the parliament; however, it has already been clarified on her account, she will assume the post of vice-speaker of the parliament. The current chairman of the National Assembly, Galust Sahakyan, and even the head of the NA apparatus Hrayr Tovmasyan are also considered candidates for the post of speaker, the name of the ex-governor of Shirak Felix Tsolakyan was also mentioned. However, it is possible that the president will present a surprise on this issue today.
