The administration of President Donald Trump, according to the information leaked in the media, intends in 2018 to sharply cut Washington's financial assistance to developing countries, and also to attach the US Agency for International Development to the State Department, Foreign Policy reports.
According to the publication, the Trump administration intends to reduce the financial assistance to developing countries by one third and send the freed funds to articles on protecting national security.
As for Armenia, the document proposes to reduce the assistance provided to it by 77.3% (initially it was planned to send $ 17.633 million to the republic). If the document is approved, in 2018 Armenia will receive only $ 4 million. But neighboring Azerbaijan and Belarus are less fortunate in this plan, the administration intends to deprive them of assistance in general. But Georgia's assistance will be reduced only by 41%, of the planned $ 47.512 million it will receive $ 28 million. The administration and its ally Ukraine did not spare - the assistance of this country will be cut down as much as 68.8% and from $ 570 million will decrease to $ 177 million.
As for the US Agency for International Development, it will close its missions in 30-35 countries out of 100 (the organization is also represented in Armenia). Finance will also be reduced to various countries for health development. This article will reduce aid to 41 countries.
