Despite the fact that the official date of Armenian Genocide start in Ottoman Empire is considered April 24 of 1915, Armenians demolitions in Turkey started earlier, at the end of 19th century. And on April 24 1915 by the direct order of Ottoman Turkey leaders Armenian intellectuals were killed: 600 armenians were arrested and deported in Constantinople, intellectual class representatives, including Daniel Varujan, Grigor Zohrap, Ruben Zardaryan, Siamanto, Ruben Sevak and others. According to historical and archival documents Armenians from Turkish 66 cities and 2500 villages were killed, over 1.5 mln people were massacred. 2350 churches and monasteries were robbed and destroyed, 1500 educational institutions were destroyed. In 1919-1920 during Paris peaceful conference number of Armenian damage was declared- 14bln 598 mln 510 thousand franks to western Armenians, and to eastern Armenians 4 bln 532 mln 472 thousand franks. It has been many decades that Armenians from all over the world fight for reparation of damages caused to Armenians.
Armenians received notable results in this struggle: over 30 countries of the world, some important international organizations, 45 USA states recognized and condemned Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Empire.
Started from yesterday events are happening dedicated to Armenian Genocide's 102nd anniversary. Torchlight procession happened in Yerevan yesterday. The participants moved to Freedom Square with torches in their hands to Armenian Genocide victims' memorial. The procession and events in memory to Armenian Genocide victims were held in Uruguay, Argentine, Australia, Georgia, and Moscow. In Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, as well as in Jerusalem liturgies will be held in memory of Armenian Genocide victims. From the early morning of April 24 thousands of people come to the memorial of Armenian Genocide victims to pay tribute.
