ArmInfo. Artsakh President Bako Sahakyan came out with a statement on Armenian Genocide victims' commemoration day.
"April 24 1915 became one of the most tragic and bloody pages in centuries old Armenian history. During these April days in Ottoman Empire was given a start of horrible program, which aim was total destruction of Armenians, destruction of our historical motherland, cultural and spiritual values.
It was the first genocide against the humanity conducted at state level, which caused 1.5 million Armenians death. Almost the same number of people were resettled forcibly from their paternal houses and motherland, and their property was stolen and grabbed by torturers.
But thanks to our strong faith, firmness, endless love and devotion to motherland Armenian nation managed to overcome this horrible tragedy. In a small part of our historical motherland Armenian tricolor again began to be waved, and today we have free, independent and sovereign Armenians in Artsakh. Our fellow nationals, who managed to survive the Genocide and who found asylums in different parts of the world, formed strong Diaspora, which lives with motherland's concerns and is one the most important reliance of our nation identity.
The Genocide will never be erased from Armenians' memory. We will continue to fight confidently for Armenian Genocide recognition and for conviction of its denial. This imprescriptible crime should not forget the whole civil world as well. Neglect and indifference in this issue is a crime, which promotes committing new crimes in the future. This simple truth was confirmed not once in 20-21 centuries, and we are thankful to the people and states, which were with us during these hard days supporting us and today are in our struggle for restoration of justice.
Paying tribute to martyrs memory, we should realize clearly that the most trustful pawn of defense capacity of our motherland and security of the nation is free, sovereign and democratic state, mission capable army, strong trinity Armenia-Artsakh-Diaspora, and for their strengthening, development and enforcement we will do everything possible", the President said.
