The absence of Armenian geopolitical role for Turkey is a pledge that there will be no changes in relations between Ankara and Yerevan and after the referendum- conducting period in Turkey, Ruben Safrastyan, Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies of Armenian National Academy and Sciences expressed his opinion to ArmInfo.
According to preliminary data, more than 51% of nationals voted for the referendum on April 16 stood for modifications to Turkish Constitution to shift governing form from parliamentary to presidential. The population of the most developed Turkish cities as Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir, vilayets of Mediterranean coast voted 'against' changes in the Constitution. Erdogan won thanks to his traditional constituency in rural of the country. According to adopted improvements, President of Turkey can remain in his post till 2029.
"In this aspect, it has no sense to wait for new approaches or tendencies in Turkish policy towards Armenia after constitutional changes. Domestic and foreign issues of Turkey hardly allow looking for any steps from Ankara to Yerevan. At that, it is worth noting that the absence of economy among the factors, which are able to determine Turkish Political elite to make changes correspondent to Armenia, practically are unanimous approach.
According to his forecasts, Ankara undertakes all the necessary efforts to create ultimate power in Syria on Iraq's Kurdish example. This will be first and the main important aim of Turkish foreign policy.
"What is to possibilities of Turkey to recognize Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Empire, at the background of atmosphere of fear rising in this country, this opportunity is totally ruled out", Safrastyan said.
