ArmInfo. The first president of Armenia, leader of the Armenian National Congress Party Levon Ter-Petrosyan is convinced that the Karabakh conflict is being resolved quite well.
At "Orakargits durs" (Out of Agenda) program on the Armenian Public TV, Ter-Petrosyan noted: "Who says that the Karabakh problem is not being resolved? It is. Direct talks are simply necessary for the sides to make them as favorable for themselves as possible." He added that Armenia and Azerbaijan are doing their best to derive benefits. "At the beginning of the talks there were a lot of discrepancies, but now there are only 1-2 discrepancies," he said.
When replying to the remark that the Armenian side is ready for concessions, while Azerbaijan is not, Ter- Petrosyan said that such remarks draw attention away from the core of the problem. "If Azerbaijan were not ready for compromises, it would take no part in the activities of the OSCE Minsk Group at all. Both sides are ready for compromises but both sides are trying to derive most favorable conditions for themselves. This is a natural process and this was so in all the plans - both phased and packaged. After all, the time comes when the sides say either yes or no," he said.
