ArmInfo. European Parliament Deputies Frank Engel, Eleni Teoharus and Jaromir Stetina can not be declared wanted by Interpol as the organization's charter forbids human persecution on the ground of ethnic or racial origin or because of political views.
This is said in a statement of the Prosecutor General of Armenia in response to the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan that these three members of the European Parliament declared internationally wanted and in respect of which a criminal case is opened on the ground of their visits to Artsakh and implementation of the observation mission during constitutional referendum in NKR .
On this ground, the General Prosecutor of Armenia takes steps to prevent the launch of the process of Azerbaijani requests on declaring internationally wanted those who visited Nagorno-Karabakh.
At the same time, the Armenian Prosecutor General's Office notes that the procedure for declaring the international wanted in the CIS space has no such restrictions. In this regard, the Armenian Prosecutor General's Office has taken steps to incorporate the restrictions on the procedure of declaring internationally wanted the persons in the CIS on the basis of their race, ethnicity or political views.
To note, recently Baku has declared internationally wanted and opened case against three European Parliamentarians Frank Engel, Eleni Teoharus and Jaromir Stetina for visiting Artsakh and implementation of the observation mission there during the constitutional referendum.
