ArmInfo. One of the key priorities of the Armenian Defense Ministry is to deepen and develop the military-diplomatic ties, Armenian Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan says in an interview to RIA Novosti.
He says that over the first four months in the defense minister's office he visited Russia, Greece, Georgia and Iran. The first visit to Russia was quite expedient given the military strategic partnership of the two countries.
As regards Greece, it is one of the countries having a large Armenian community. In addition, Armenia and Greece face common regional threats and challenges. Over the 25 years of existence of the Armenian army Greece has been an important partner of Armenia in terms of military personnel training and military- political dialogue.
As for Georgia and Iran, Sargsyan pointed out that Armenia has a number of key regional security-related issues with these countries. "The visits were important also because we discussed such issues as transit of military cargoes through the territory of these countries and this is an important aspect ensuring our security. Armenia and Iran realize the need for close cooperation in regional security matters," the minister stressed. -
