ArmInfo. Actually, the international community recognizes the referendum in Nagorno Karabakh, Spokesman of the NKR President David Babayan told journalists on 20 February.
"The statement of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs noted that they do not recognize the results of the referendum from the viewpoint of changes in the republic's legal status. Meanwhile, the referendum is not meant to introduce changes in the status, but only aims to contribute to implementation of the constitutional reforms. The Karabakh people made their choice on September 2, 1991 by proclaiming the independence of the NKR, and on December 10 of the same year they reaffirmed their decision," Babayan announced.
He also accentuated the part of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs' statement, which says that the referendum aims to regulate the domestic life in the unrecognized republic. "Actually, the international community recognizes and welcomes the referendum, especially as it meets all democratic requirements," David Babayan noted.
