ArmInfo. Armenia intends to permit the citizens of Russia to travel to Armenia with national identity cards. The relevant decision was taken at the Government's sitting on January 19.
Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan said that this will foster tourism development. "It is hard to say how much the inflow of tourists to Armenia will grow, but it is obvious that the inflow will increase," Kocharyan said.
He says that the agreement will come into affect before the summer holidays. "I think after the relevant procedures at the local and interstate levels, the citizens of Russia will be able to travel to Armenia with national identity cards," Kocharyan said.
To recall, during a joint briefing with ex-prime minister of Armenia Hovik Abrahamyan on 7 April 2016, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said that Russia is willing to implement the Armenian Government's initiative on the use of Russian national identity cards for traveling to Armenia.
